Medical Receptionist Jobs
A warm welcome starts with you.
Onyx Health Scarborough | Scarborough, Queensland
Full-time · $30–$35 per hour + super · Commencing November 2026
Be the reassuring voice on the phone and the friendly face at reception. Join Onyx Health Scarborough in a role where thoughtful service and accurate administration help patients feel welcome and keep the practice running smoothly.
Your role
Working alongside the Practice Manager, GPs and nursing team, you'll coordinate the front desk, support patient bookings and keep essential administration on track. You'll balance patient enquiries with day-to-day tasks, communicate clearly and ask for help when something needs clinical or management attention.
What you'll do
Welcome patients, manage check-in and check-out, and confirm contact and billing details accurately.
Answer calls and enquiries courteously, record clear messages and direct requests to the right person.
Coordinate appointments and changes to clinicians' diaries using practice booking protocols.
Process payments and Medicare or other claims within your training and the practice's procedures; assist with daily payment reconciliation.
Maintain accurate records, scan and route correspondence, and support referral and recall administration as directed by clinicians.
Protect patient privacy and handle sensitive information discreetly.
Alert a nurse or GP promptly when a patient may need urgent attention, following escalation procedures.
Help maintain an organised reception area, support opening and closing routines, and suggest practical improvements to administrative workflows.
Clinical assessment and advice remain with the clinical team.
What you'll bring
A friendly, respectful approach to patients from diverse backgrounds, including those who may be worried or unwell.
Clear verbal and written communication, reliable attendance and a collaborative approach.
Accurate computer and data-entry skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities calmly.
Sound judgement about confidentiality, professional boundaries and when to escalate a concern.
Reception, administration or customer-service experience. Previous GP or specialist medical reception experience is highly regarded.
Australian work rights appropriate to the position.
Helpful, but not essential: experience with Best Practice or comparable medical software, Medicare billing and EFTPOS, or a qualification in medical administration or business administration.
For this reception role, we are seeking administrative capability rather than a nursing qualification. Applicants with relevant transferable experience are welcome to explain how their skills fit the position.
Why consider Onyx Health Scarborough?

Work closely with doctors, nurses and practice management.
Bring your attention to detail and ideas to the everyday patient experience.
